Also known as: Ta1, Zadaxin, Thymalfasin

Overview

A 28-amino acid peptide originally isolated from thymic tissue by Allan Goldstein in the 1970s. FDA orphan drug and approved in over 35 countries for hepatitis B/C and as an immune adjuvant. Considered the gold standard immune-modulating peptide.

Half-Life

1.6–3.2 mg
Frequency
2x per week
Cycle Length
8-12 weeks, may be used long-term under medical supervision

Administration

Subcutaneous

Benefits

  • Enhances T-cell maturation and function
  • Augments dendritic cell and NK cell activity
  • Improves vaccine response in immunocompromised patients
  • Antiviral activity against hepatitis B and C
  • Adjunct therapy in certain cancers (melanoma, hepatocellular carcinoma)
  • Restores immune balance without overstimulation

Side Effects

  • Injection site redness or irritation (mild)
  • Fatigue (uncommon)
  • Mild flu-like symptoms during initial dosing
  • Rash (rare)

Mechanism of Action

  • Stimulates T-cell progenitor differentiation via thymic pathways
  • Upregulates MHC class I expression on antigen-presenting cells
  • Increases IL-2 and interferon-alpha production
  • Enhances toll-like receptor signaling in dendritic cells
  • Promotes CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activation and proliferation

Contraindications
