Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro-Desmethyl)
Also known as: Selank, TP-7, Selanc
A synthetic analog of the naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Selank is primarily recognized as an anxiolytic and nootropic peptide, but its relevance to sleep lies in its potent anti-anxiety effects and modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission. By reducing anxiety and normalizing stress responses without sedation, Selank helps resolve the anxiety-driven insomnia that affects a large proportion of sleep disorder patients.
Store at 2–8°C (36–46°F) for up to 3 months, protected from light and heat. Intranasal solutions: refrigerate and use within 14-21 days.
Selank has been approved in Russia as an anxiolytic medication (nasal spray formulation) and has been studied in over 30 clinical and preclinical trials. Studies demonstrated anxiolytic effects comparable to benzodiazepines but without sedation, cognitive impairment, or dependence. Zozulia et al. showed that Selank normalized the sleep-wake cycle in patients with generalized anxiety disorder, with improvements in both sleep onset latency and sleep maintenance. Gene expression studies revealed modulation of 45 genes related to GABAergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. Its dual anxiolytic-nootropic profile makes it particularly valuable for individuals whose sleep disturbance stems from anxiety or cognitive hyperarousal.
